The do’s and don’ts of massage guns
Should I buy or use a massage gun like the Hyper Volt or Theragun?
We are starting to see these everywhere from TV commercials, Sports sidelines— even Target & Best Buy!
What is the point/benefit of them?
These massage guns do a great job with warming up tissues and muscles to avoid early stiffness/tightness and can be beneficial to recover from a hard workout.
What's the downside?
They are not a long term solution for pain. Massage guns can actually damage tissue and create more problems. Using massage guns on nerves, tendons and bones can cause more pain and injure important structures.
When is it safe to use a massage gun?
Improve Athletic Performance— Sports sidelines are a good spot for them, they help with tight muscles and getting some quick extra blood flow to get through the game or competition.
Recovering from hard workout— This can help reduce soreness and stiffness which will speed up your recovery.
Can a Massage Gun hurt me or cause damage?
YES!
Only use them on the big fat part of the muscle—not the tendon.
